Trades Week Concludes
PMI and North Idaho College Collaborate
The first PMI Trades Week concluded on July 19th with 13 gradiates. This first-year program was offered as a pilot to attract middle school and early high school students to the trades. Participants ranged from ages 12-14, mostly without a background in using tools or having shop experience.

Trades Week included:​

Introduction to hand tools.
-
Introduction to hand held power tools.
-
Larger power tools, such as drill press, table saw, etc.
-
Concepts of quality and consistency.
-
Blueprints, design, and instructions.
-
Manufacturing - designing and making many products
-
Application of learning through projects
-
Teamwork, communication, problem-solving

Thanks to our instructors Gary Gillespie (Ferris High School), Chris Gordon (NIC), and Nate Zschoche for guiding the learning. From a rough first-day of building basic birdhouses to creating stools and product,s, participants learned, grew, and improved in their skills.
