Considerations

All programs offered by the Institute and its partners use tools and materials that, by their nature, may expose students to hazards. While the grade school program is basic and uses only rudimentary tools, all programs may expose learners to loud noises, machinery, moving parts, power tools, and other equipment. While we do our best to provide all measures to ensure student safety, we rely on students to do their part. This requires students to pay attention, follow directions, communicate clearly, understand and follow rules, and be respectful. It also requires students to engage physically, mentally, and emotionally through hands-on work, project planning, teamwork, conflict management, safe use of tools, and other general requirements of "shop work." We recognize that each learner is unique and we take that into consideration to ensure the best experience possible..

Do you foresee any limitations that might require consideration for assistance or accommodation to facilitate your participation in the program?

INFORMATION COLLECTION AND USE

We provide spaces for BOTH student and parent/guardian contact information, such as email and phone numbers. There are many times during the high school program when we must communicate directly and regularly (even daily) with participants. General communications are sent to all provided email addresses to ensure parents/guardians stay abreast of relevant program information. We have had challenges in the past when students do not receive the required information because only parents' email addresses are provided.  However, we respect your privacy choices and always do our best to protect your child's safety.

PROGRAM LOCATIONS

Please note that we are still confirming the final locations. If applicants are accepted for the program, they will be contacted with the option to attend available programs. Programs are currently confirmed at the following locations: East Valley HS, Ferris HS, Newport HS, Cheney HS, Lind-Ritzville HS, Bowdish MS, North Idaho College (Middle School program), East Valley Middle School, and an East Valley School District grade school location.

ELIGIBILITY

Any currently enrolled K-12 student in the program is eligible to apply from any school district. Applicants do not need to attend the school or district in which the program is offered. Priority acceptance for some available spaces may be reserved for students from a sponsoring school or district. Other terms and conditions apply to acceptance criteria. However, all eligible students may apply, and those accepted may attend the program from any location, subject to the program terms and conditions. Programs are designed to be age and grade appropriate. PMI reserves the right to accept or deny applications for any or no reason.

PMI-2 (PMI Year 2)

This year, we are piloting a "Year 2" Institute available to those who have previously completed the full Institute program. In collaboration with The Machinists Institute, PMI is excited to offer this accelerated 2-week Advanced Manufacturing program. It is ONLY available to a limited number of students on a first-come, first-served basis. Once the maximum enrollment is reached, we will maintain a waiting list. Like all other programs, there is no cost to students. The program costs are covered by the generous support of MI and its sponsors. Students are under the same expectations, terms, and conditions as any other PMI program. Students up to and including those who graduated from high school in the same year are eligible to apply only to the PMI-2 program.

PROGRAM QUESTIONS

The Production and Manufacturing Institute is an independent organization that partners collaboratively with schools, businesses, and other organizations to bring these experiences to students and the community. Though the programs are run at various school locations, they are not school programs. All programs are operated and administered by PMI. All questions, concerns, suggestions, or other considerations should be directed to PMI and not to education or business organizations. PMI reserves the right to modify program content, qualifications, terms, conditions, acceptance, denial, and other program features or terms and conditions at any time either with or without prior notice.
